I searched for it in distant lands,
Beyond the reach of roads I’d known.
Shifting years and changing sands,
Still every path felt not my own.

I thought it waited somewhere new,
Past every ridge and setting sun.
Yet peace arrived without a clue,
All my endless miles were done.

It was not built of wood or stone,
Nor marked upon a map or chart.
A man can stand completely lone,
And still find shelter in his heart.

Storms had carved their careful trace,
Old losses shaped what would remain.
Each wound became a quieter place,
That taught me how to carry pain.

One day life grew soft and clear,
The need to run at last grew still.
What I had chased for many years
Had waited just beyond my will.

Home is the place the soul can rest,
When fear no longer guards the door.
It is the self we know the best,
I no longer need to search for more.
